Description

The tana is a traditional women’s clothing ornament made of metal in the form of a circular decorative button. Its centre has a hemispherical raised boss surrounded by several concentric rows of geometric decoration. The ornamental composition consists of embossed triangular, circular, and dot-shaped elements. The outer border is decorated with a row of small circles. A loop for attachment to clothing is soldered to the reverse.
The tana was used to decorate women’s dresses, kamzols, and other forms of traditional clothing. The object reflects traditional Kazakh metalworking, clothing-decoration practices, and artistic aesthetics.
