Description

Bracelet - a traditional women’s metal ornament intended to be worn on the wrist. The museum object is made from a broad strip of yellow-coloured metal using forging and bending techniques. It has the form of an open-ended hoop. The strip gradually tapers toward the ends, which are rounded. The outer surface is decorated with an ornamental design. The metal surface has been polished.
Open-ended bracelets of this type were worn by Kazakh women as everyday and decorative jewellery. The tapered and rounded terminals made the bracelet easier to put on and remove. The use of forging, bending, and polishing reflects 20th-century metalworking and jewellery-making practices.
The museum object is an ethnographic source illustrating women’s adornment practices, the production of bracelets from yellow-coloured metal, and the ornamental decoration of traditional jewellery.
