Earring

Description

Earring - a traditional women’s silver ornament intended to be worn on the ear. The museum object is made of silver of 500 fineness using forging and bending techniques. The main section has a rounded form resembling an incomplete crescent. The upper part contains a recess shaped like the taban motif, with a pointed projection extending upward from its centre. The lower part is rounded and terminates in a pointed projection directed downward. The fastening hook is broken and has not been preserved.
Earrings of this form were used as women’s decorative jewellery. The crescent-shaped body, taban-shaped recess, and upward- and downward-pointing projections define the artistic character of the object. The shaping of silver through forging and bending reflects traditional 20th-century metalworking practices.
The museum object is an ethnographic source illustrating women’s adornment practices, the formal characteristics of silver earrings, and the use of the taban motif in traditional jewellery.
