A genre composition with elements of still life conveys the atmosphere of an oriental bazaar as a space of abundance, light, and lively human interaction. In the foreground, two female figures are depicted among numerous melons. The central figure, wearing a light headscarf and an orange-yellow dress, serves as the compositional and colour accent of the work. The figures and objects are treated in a generalized manner, with expressive contours and free painterly brushwork. In the background, the silhouettes of people, market stalls, and awnings can be discerned. Contrasting colour relationships give the work a festive, decorative, and emotionally rich character. There is a signature in the lower right.
