Author: Ismailova, Gulfairus. 1929-2013
A still life in which traditional Kazakh headwear - saukele - is presented not merely as functional objects, but as evocative symbols of national cultural identity. Occupying the center of the composition, their striking vertical form organizes and anchors the entire pictorial space. Patches of deep blue, green, red, yellow, and ochre hues blend with ornamental patterns to build the work’s decorative, planar structure, with particular emphasis placed on the fusion of geometric and botanical motifs. The spatial depth is given conventionally: the objects partially overlap, allowing linear perspective to yield to a rich rhythmic and colouristic surface organization. Overall, the painting serves as a visual image of national culture, conveying the distinctiveness of traditional art through vibrant colour, ornamentation, and decorative expression.
