A genre scene devoted to the traditional process of sheep shearing. The composition is built around a large light-toned mass of wool in the centre and foreground, which unites the figures of the working women and sets the overall tonal character of the work. In the background, within the semi-shadow of the interior, additional figures and elements of the setting are loosely indicated, conveying the atmosphere of everyday rural life. The painterly manner is free, with soft blurred contours and a restrained colour palette.
