A mountain landscape features large stones and rocky outcrops on the left of the foreground, with bare-branched trees rising behind them; among the slender trunks, a tree with a massive trunk stands out on the right, while mountain slopes are glimpsed through the branches in the distance. The composition is built on the vertical rhythm of the trunks dividing the surface of the canvas. The work is executed in broad impasto strokes, with generalized forms, while the branches are drawn in thin lines over the underlying masses of color. The palette combines the cool blue-grey tones of the stones with the warm pinkish-ochre tones of the earth and reddish accents along the branches.
