Description

Spheroconical vessel - an archaeological ceramic container formed from grey clay and fired. It has an elongated form and a swollen body, with one end continuing into a short neck and the other narrowing sharply to a pointed end. The exterior is entirely decorated with relief ornament composed of vegetal motifs, wavy lines, and diagonal elements. Three raised projections are present on the side. The object was discovered at the Buzyktobe settlement.
Spheroconical vessels of this type were used as specialised containers for storing and transporting small quantities of liquids or valuable substances. The narrow neck reduced the risk of spilling the contents, while the pointed lower section may have been associated with a particular method of positioning the vessel. The relief ornament covering the exterior defines the artistic character of the object.
The museum object is an archaeological source illustrating ceramic production at Buzyktobe during the 13th-15th centuries, the manufacture of specialised vessels, and traditions of decorating ceramic objects with relief ornament.
