Kobyz of Ykylas Dukenuly

Description

The body of the qobyz is made from a single piece of wood using a hollowing technique, with the upper part covered in thin hide. Its long neck is fitted with horizontally positioned tuning pegs for tightening the strings. The strings and bow have been preserved. This qobyz was handcrafted by the renowned Kazakh qobyz player and küy composer Yqylas Dukenuly. He performed many of his küys on this instrument.
