Description

Spindle - a traditional tool used for spinning thread. It is made of wood and consists of three main parts:

– Shaft - the main rod used for twisting the fiber into thread;
– Whorl (disc) - a circular part attached to the upper section to maintain balance and ensure stable spinning;
– Weight (load) - a lead piece fixed to the lower end of the shaft to provide momentum and assist in smooth rotation.

The spindle was an essential tool in the daily life of Kazakh women, used in spinning wool or plant fibers into thread, later utilized in felt-making, weaving, and sewing.
