Description

Mortar and pestle (Kelsap).
The mortar is carved from a single piece of wood. The outside is covered with raw animal hide, with the hide facing outward. This covering, once dry, secures the wood and prevents cracking.
The mortar’s dimensions are: overall height-45 cm, internal diameter at the top-17 cm, wall thickness-3 cm, depth-32 cm. The pestle (kelsap) is made of dense wood, carefully dried in the shade. The top section has a diameter of 10 cm and tapers smoothly over a length of 26 cm. The middle section, 14 cm long, is carved with a 4 cm depression in the center, making it comfortable to grip. The lower part ends in a pointed tip with a diameter of 5 cm. The end of the pestle is heavily worn from repeated use, and the upper part is cracked and broken. The total length of the pestle is 76 cm.
