R. Balzhigitova’s Felt Carpet with Embroidered Ornament

Description

The object is a decorative textile made of felt by hand. The surface of the carpet is embellished with traditional ornamental motifs, while the lower edge is finished with thread fringe. Its decorative treatment reflects the traditional use of felt and national ornament in Kazakh decorative and applied arts. The carpet was handcrafted in 1990. It belonged to R. Balzhigitova and represents an example of decorative feltwork associated with traditional Kazakh material culture and craft practices.
