Loading images...

Description

This tekemet is a traditional Kazakh felt rug made by hand from natural sheep’s wool using the felting technique. The front surface is decorated with stylized geometric and spiral ornaments in brown, yellow, and black on a light-colored background. An ornamental border frames the composition, while the inscription “Ерболат” appears along the lower edge in black wool, likely indicating the name of the owner or maker and the associated year of the design. Traditionally, tekemets were used to insulate and decorate the interior of Kazakh yurts and homes. This artifact is an excellent example of Kazakhstan’s traditional felt-making
