Against high mountains with snow-covered peaks, an urban landscape depicts a plain lined with two-storey and single-storey residential buildings under sloping roofs. In the foreground to the right, a slender leafless tree rises into the air. Executed en plein air with broad brushstrokes, the work features synthetic, compactly structured forms, while the far distance is resolved in dense masses of colour. The palette is built on the harmonious interplay of the cool greyish-lilac tones of the mountains with the greenish and ochre hues of the buildings under a clear sky.
