A multi-figure composition dedicated to the World War II, capturing the arrival of a delegation from the homeland to Panfilov’s soldiers. Centered in the composition is a group of soldiers clad in overcoats and winter caps gathered around crates of apples brought from Kazakhstan: one sits crouched beside the crates, while others stand holding letters and fruits; on the right, the figures of a commander and an elder anchor the scene. In the middle ground beside a covered truck, crates are being distributed, while in the background depth, a horseman and a belt of snow-covered forest emerge. The foreground figures are arranged in a frieze-like formation, painted in a restrained manner with a generalized modeling of faces and attire. The color scheme builds upon the muted, greyish-blue tones of winter twilight, punctuated by the resonant accent of red apples that reinforces the theme of unity between the front line and the home front.
