An urban landscape depicting a view of the city’s outskirts. The foreground is separated from the distance by a suburban street that crosses the canvas diagonally and disappears behind the houses. Along the right side of the street stands a row of houses with rain-wet roofs; on the left are outbuildings and a fence, with trees rising behind them. In the distance, beneath a cloudy sky, lies a panorama of the city with bell towers and factory chimneys. The work is executed in a plein-air manner with impasto strokes, the forms generalised and the far distance dissolved in damp haze. The colour scheme is built on muted grey-ochre tones, among which the red patches of the roofs stand out.
