A multi-figure frontal composition: at the centre is an elderly man with a grey beard, in a light shirt and work clothes, around whom young men’s faces are closely grouped, wearing protective goggles pushed up onto their foreheads. The figures are given in close-up, shoulder to shoulder, filling almost the entire space of the canvas. The colouring is rich and contrasting; the brushwork broad, the forms modelled in colour, the faces generalised. The image is heroic and monumental, conveying the cohesion and dignity of a labour collective. Lower right - the signature.
