Portrait of Ramazan Bapov

Description

Author: Ismailova, Gulfairus. 1929-2013
Set against a dark background with crimson flashes, a bust-length portrait in profile depicts a man in theatrical costume. His head is turned toward the viewer with his gaze averted, while one hand rests upon his shoulder. Illuminated by a cool light, the face with its sharp, refined features, the distinctive hand gesture, and the upright posture convey not merely an external likeness, but the sitter’s distinct personality. The color scheme relies on a harmonious relationship of localized color fields unified by a restrained tonal range. Meanwhile, the fluid brushwork seamlessly fuses the precision of graphic drawing with the decorative integrity of color masses.
