Description
Author: Isaev, Abdukarim. 1949
Executed in the neo-archaic style of Kazakh painting, this decorative and symbolic composition features a flat, stylized, ornamental aesthetic. Devoid of chiaroscuro and spatial depth, its form is structured through the rhythm of contour lines and solid color fields, with the figurative motif virtually resolving into a pattern. At the center of the square canvas lies a large white-silver form whose outlines evoke a cluster of tigers huddled together in a dense, disordered mass. The texture and color palette reflect the tiger’s coat-a motif echoed in a small red rectangle at the center and in two black-and-white elements in the upper left and lower right corners. The image of the wild animal, a recurring theme throughout the artist’s oeuvre, held profound sacred meaning among ancient Turkic peoples, who revered the tiger as a guardian against evil spirits and a symbol of protection and martial valor. At the upper right – signature.
