Portrait of Academician A. Margulan

Description

Author: Dzhusupov, Ali. 1928-1976
A portrait of Academician A. Margulan, seated at a desk with clasped hands, against a background of bookshelves; in the foreground, glasses rest on a stack of books. The sitter’s gaze is focused, slightly detached, lending the image a note of inner restraint and dignity. The colouring is restrained and cool - grey-blue tones of the suit contrast with warm ochre-brown patches of the book spines and the purple cabinet. The painterly manner is generalized, sparing in detail - the pronounced modelling of the face and hands is combined with the flat, decorative treatment of the background.
