Description
Location: Inder district, Atyrau region, 1956. Date: Cenozoic era. The mammoth is an extinct species of mammals belonging to the elephant family. Compared to modern elephants, the mammoth had a larger body, especially a massive and high front part of the body, had short legs and tail, dense fur, and long curved tusks. In the upper jaw, there were two tusks (in large individuals, up to 4.5 m long, 18-19 cm in diameter, weighing up to 100 kg). The teeth in the jaws – one on each side, large, flat, consisting of layers of enamel.
