Medal “40th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR”

Description

The medal is circular in shape and made of brass. The centre of the obverse features a relief profile portrait of V. I. Lenin facing left. In the lower part, the raised numeral “40” is placed over two crossed laurel and oak branches.
The reverse bears the raised inscription “В ОЗНАМЕНОВАНИЕ СОРОКОВОЙ ГОДОВЩИНЫ” (“In Commemoration of the Fortieth Anniversary”) around the circumference. In the centre is the inscription “ВООРУЖЕННЫХ СИЛ СССР” (“Armed Forces of the USSR”) and the dates “1918-1958”. A small five-pointed star is depicted at the bottom. The edge of the medal is bordered by a raised rim. All images and inscriptions are in relief.
The medal is attached by means of a suspension loop and ring to a pentagonal mount covered with a 24 mm wide grey silk moiré ribbon. Two narrow red longitudinal stripes run down the centre of the ribbon, with one red stripe along each edge
