Medal ’60th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR’

Description

L. S. Matrosov’s Medal “60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR”. The medal is round-shaped, with an edge framed by a rim. All inscriptions and images on the medal are embossed. The medal is fixed to a pentagonal mounting through a hook and a ring. The mount is covered with gray silk moiré ribbon. The edges of the ribbon are bordered with a red stripe, and a gold longitudinal stripe runs in the middle. The obverse: a soldier of the Soviet Army holding an automatic weapon is depicted against the background of rising rockets and flying military aircraft. To the right of the soldier, there is a depiction of a submarine on the sea horizon with the years ‘1918’ and ‘1978’ shown in two rows above it. The reverse: the words ‘Шестьдесят лет’ and ‘Вооружённых Сил СССР’ along the rim, separated by asterisks. In the center, there is a star on top of crossed rifles and a sword, which features a hammer and sickle in its center. The back of the mount has a pin-type clasp.
