Description
The pestle for a saba is one of the essential traditional tools in Kazakh daily life. It is used in the fermentation process of kumis (fermented mare’s milk). The pestle is made of wood, with a long handle and a flat, rounded end. Its operation involves repeatedly churning the kumis inside the saba in an up-and-down motion. This process accelerates fermentation and ensures the drink ferments evenly.
