Chest

Description

The end of the nineteenth century. The home furniture of the Kazakh people is a type of chest. It was widely used in the Kazakh steppe in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was designed for storing clothes and other items. The design resembles a pattern. It is made of thin boards and is covered with leather on the outside, with various decorations on the surface. This type of chest was used in wealthy families. It was specifically ordered for the “Kyz Uzatu” (Bride’s Farewell) ritual.
The rectangular chest has a hinged lid attached to the main body. The outer surface of the wooden frame is completely covered with cattle skin. The skin is decorated with ornaments and metal plates are attached. An iron hook is built into the lid for hanging the lock.
It is made by planing, grinding, kneading, and veneering.
