А Girl Illuminated by the Sun

Description

Author: Duysenbayev, Kenzhebay. 1942
The narrative-genre still-life composition is built on the juxtaposition of two spatial zones: on the left, in a doorway, stands the figure of a girl; on the right, a courtyard still life with fruit, a vessel, and drapery on a small table, behind which a landscape opens with a tree and a tandoor oven set against an ochre field and blue sky. The colour scheme is built on the contrast between the deep blue-black shadows of the foreground and the warm ochre-green tones of the landscape fragment. The dense, generalized painterly manner and the motif of “a view through a doorway” create a sense of spatial layering and serene seclusion in the genre scene.
