Night Fountain

Description

Author: Nurzhumayev, Oralbek. 1938-1996
An evening urban landscape featuring, at the left against a dark starry sky, the corner of a theatre facade with illuminated windows; street lamps burn along the avenue, while to the right rises the cascading curtain of a fountain. In the foreground stand large half-length figures of a woman and a girl, with the silhouettes of passers-by receding between them in the depth of space. Forms are generalized and treated in flat planes, while the space relies on the contrast between dark and illuminated zones. The palette balances deep blue tones of the night sky against the warm, ochre-brown hues of the buildings and the bright, silvery passage of the fountain.
