Breastplate

Description

The breastplate is a component of horse tack worn across the front shoulders of a horse to prevent the saddle from sliding forward. This traditional Kazakh breastplate is made from firmly tanned leather. The surface of the leather is decorated with a series of elongated metal plates arranged in sequence. These metal fittings are embossed with geometric and vegetal motifs and are secured to the leather base with small nails.
At the central intersection, there is a round, bud-shaped silver-colored ornament, serving as the main decorative focal point. The breastplate is constructed in an X-shape, allowing it to fit snugly and comfortably on the horse’s body. At the two upper ends, there are oval metal pieces with holes, intended for fastening the breastplate to the horse’s chest or via a neck strap.
