Vessel

Description

A flat-bottomed, closed-form vessel of jug type with a narrow neck. Made of red clay, hand-modelled, and coated with red slip. The body of the vessel is globular in shape. The high neck, conical in form, ends in a sharp rim cut at an angle of 40 degrees toward the handle. The rim projects outward, forming a small collar along the edge of the vessel. In its upper part, the rim transitions into a short, open spout. The handle is straight, with an applied knob-like projection on its upper part. The body and neck of the vessel were made separately and then joined together. Directly below the rim are two applied crescent-shaped lugs (“ears”), the inner surfaces of which are decorated with impressed ornament representing stylized images of the sun. From the crescents, and from beneath the central part of the spout, descend three applied lines in the form of oblique fir branches (“beard”), ending in applied trefoil motifs. The junction of the body and neck is covered with a strip of clay decorated with two rows of oval impressions.
