Description

Pectoral decorated with figurines of mountain sheep-argali (two fragments). 8th -7th c.c B.C. Gold. Casting, forging, soldering, graining, incrustation. Sizes: width -14,5 сm, height - 8,0 сm, circle length - 72,2 сm, thickness of main plate - 0,7х0,8 mm. Argali length - 1,5 сm, height - 1,1 сm. Weight - 290, 37-36. Standart - 900. Chest adornment, a luniform pectoral. It is a massive gold plate in the form of oval framed by a row of soldered gold stripes and stranded wire. At
the ends the pectoral has wire loops for hanging on the chain. On pectoral surface there are four rows of several dozens of miniature sculptures of argali, lying with their legs pursed up under the barrel. They are made for inserting incrustations of semi-precious stones. Argali are turned
with their heads to the center of the pectoral. All the space between the figurines is filled with soldered balls of granules. Some argali horns are cast separately and soldered to head, strengthened by pitch. Total amout of argali on pectoral - 70, incomplete figures - 7.
Zhalauly treasure. Zhalauly village, Rayimbek district, Almaty region. Accidental finding 1988.
