Shammat Ishan Museum

The Shammat-Ishan Museum is a historical and cultural monument located in the village of Karnak, in the city of Kentau, Turkistan Region. In 1789, the foundation of a madrasa-mosque was laid with the aim of enlightening the local population. The construction of the building was initiated by Shammat-Ishan (Shamukhammad-Ishan). From a young age, he received religious education from his father, and later took the initiative to build the madrasa himself, striving to improve the educational level of the community.

The structure was built in several phases: the small aksaray (ceremonial hall) was constructed in 1789, and the large aksaray followed in 1876. Beneath the small aksaray, there is an underground prayer hall where religious services were held during the hot summer months. The large aksaray served both as a mosque and a place for students to begin their education. A corridor separates the two buildings. The interior of the large aksaray is decorated with exquisite elements of Eastern architecture.

The museum consists of 29 rooms, including exhibition halls as well as the small and large aksaray. The museum's land area covers 1,950 square meters, and the total building area is 320 square meters. The museum's collection contains 2,633 artifacts.
