Temirtau City Historical and Local Lore Museum
Temirtau Historical and Local History Museum is a state cultural, educational, scientific-research, and historical-educational institution located in the city of Temirtau, Karaganda Region. The museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation, systematization, and wide popularization of the city’s and region’s rich historical, natural, ethnographic, and cultural heritage.
The museum was founded on February 10, 1972. As of today, it occupies a total area of 1,200 square meters, with 960 square meters dedicated to exhibition space. The museum's exhibitions are designed according to historical periods and themes, using modern museum technologies and interactive displays.
Main Exhibition Halls and Sections:
1. Paleontology Hall - This hall presents fossil remains and skeletal fragments of ancient life forms discovered in the region. The exhibits are aimed at illustrating the geological history of the Earth and natural evolution.
2. Nature of the Native Land Hall - This section displays the flora and fauna of the Temirtau region and its natural ecosystems. The interior is designed to replicate the Kazakh steppe landscape, providing visitors with an immersive experience of the local environment.
3. Archaeology Section - This area features archaeological artifacts unearthed in the region, dating from the Bronze Age, Early Iron Age, and Medieval periods. Exhibits include tools, ceramics, and household items that shed light on the ancient history of the area.
4-5. History of Temirtau and "Temirtau in the 1950s-60s" Halls
These sections cover the industrial development of the city, the early construction stages, the establishment of metallurgy, and socio-economic transformations during the Soviet era. The exhibits include detailed reconstructions of mid-20th-century home interiors and everyday life.
6.Hall of Remembrance - Dedicated to the memory of Temirtau residents who participated in World War II and home front workers, this hall features personal letters, photographs, archival documents, and military relics.
7. Numismatics Hall - A unique collection of rare coins and banknotes is displayed here. A re-exposition was conducted using modern museum technology, showcasing the history of currency circulation and coin minting on the territory of Kazakhstan.
8. Unity of the Peoples of Kazakhstan Section - This section introduces the cultural traditions, customs, and everyday life of the various ethnic groups living in Kazakhstan. It promotes the idea of national unity and interethnic harmony.
The Temirtau Historical and Local History Museum is a modern cultural space that connects past and present, fosters spiritual education, and preserves historical memory. Future plans include the digitalization of the museum’s collection, the implementation of new interactive technologies, and the expansion of educational and scientific programs for schoolchildren and young people.
