Bayganin District Museum
The Bayganin District Museum of History and Local Lore is an important cultural institution dedicated to preserving the spiritual and cultural heritage of different generations and passing on historical memory to future ones. The museum was founded in 1989. Its establishment became possible thanks to the initiative of the then akim of the district, Turykpembay Ayzharykov, who issued a decree to launch the project. Following this directive, and with the support of the head of the district department of culture, Sundet Sarybayev, construction of the museum building began, and the foundation was laid. During its formative years, the museum received great support from local historians, cultural workers, librarians, and schoolchildren. Bayganin is a sacred land, home to poets and warriors, scholars and defenders of the homeland. Therefore, the museum staff began systematically collecting, studying, and popularizing the historical and cultural heritage of the region. Valuable information about the history and prominent figures of the Zhem-Sagyz region was introduced into academic circulation.
Kazakhstan's independence gave new impetus to the museum's activities. The task of reviving the legacy of the batyrs who fought for freedom and independence became especially relevant, as well as preserving their spiritual and historical image in the memory of future generations.
In this regard, in 1992, historical data were collected on the life and feats of Barak Batyr - a representative of the Tabyn clan of the Zhetyru tribe of the Junior Zhuz, who was born in the Sam sands on the Ustyurt Plateau. At his eternal resting place - the Asau-Barak Mausoleum in the Sam region - a domed mausoleum made of white marble was erected.
On June 11-12, 1993, a large memorial celebration was held at the Konyr Don site in the Bayganin district, marking the 250th anniversary of Barak Batyr and the 230th anniversary of Asau Batyr. As part of this significant event, the Bayganin District Museum was officially opened, and a special exhibition corner dedicated to the batyrs was organized. During the ceremony, descendants of the batyrs donated valuable relics to the museum’s collection - the spearhead of Barak Batyr and a large cauldron (taikazan) belonging to his descendant, Dauit Batyr. Guests were presented with museum exhibits, and educational activities were actively carried out.
On September 26-27, 2013, the Bayganin District actively participated in a memorial event dedicated to the 270th anniversary of Barak Batyr and the 250th anniversary of Asau Batyr, held in the Beineu district, contributing significantly to commemorating these historical figures. These events helped enrich the museum's collection with new exhibits and offered a new perspective on national history.
The Bayganin District Museum of History and Local Lore plays an important scientific and educational role in preserving, studying, and transmitting the spiritual heritage of the region to future generations. Thanks to the museum’s efforts, the vivid pages of the people's history are brought to life and preserved in public memory.
