Shardara district historical and local history museum

A branch of the Turkestan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore - the Shardara District Museum of History and Local Lore - was officially established in 2007 by a decree of the Akimat of South Kazakhstan Region. As early as 2006, the museum's collection had accumulated more than 700 artifacts, registered as historical and cultural assets, reflecting the history of the Kyzylkum region and the district. Currently, the museum's collection includes over 3,000 items, forming the main and research-support funds. These artifacts are presented across several thematic sections, including archaeology, ethnography, nature, the Shardara Hydroelectric Power Station, and local district history.

The exhibition hall of the Shardara District Museum of History and Local Lore consists of several sections. The archaeological section features artifacts related to the early medieval history of the Kyzylkum region - clay vessels and jars discovered in the ancient settlements of Sutkent and Zhaushyqum. The exhibition also includes color photographs of the Uzyn Ata Mausoleum, located in the Uzynata rural district and well-preserved to this day, along with images of the aforementioned ruins appearing as mound-shaped remnants.

The section dedicated to the construction of the Shardara Hydroelectric Power Station and the district’s development during the Soviet era presents photographs and documents from the late 1950s and subsequent decades. These materials are complemented by artifacts from the period of Independent Kazakhstan, illustrating historical continuity. Notably, this section includes valuable items donated by the Honored Citizen of the district and veteran builder Tañirberdi Agmanuly, who played a significant role in the development of the virgin lands of Kyzylkum.

It is also important to acknowledge the names of the veterans who made significant contributions to the formation of the district. Among them are Zhamal Ötegenqyzy, Toksanbai Berdibekov, Zoya Mamaeva, Zeyilbek Esheñqulov, Sheraly Kemelov, and the late Süleimen Smatullayev and Tañirbergen Akmyrzayev. Their dedication and contributions to preserving the district's history will undoubtedly remain inscribed in the museum's chronicles in golden letters.
