Zhanibek District Historical and Local History Museum
On December 16, 2001, in the village of Zhanibek, a public museum was opened to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. The opening ceremony was attended by K. Karagoyshin, then head of the Regional Department of Information and Public Accord, and M. Karimullin, acting district akim at the time. The museum’s establishment was supported by the then district akim Maksim Khasanov and the head of the district department of culture, language development, physical culture and sports, Dauletkerey Kusainov.
In the 1970s, an initiative to open a museum in the district was launched. In 1970, under the leadership of the late teacher Kair Arystanaliev from the secondary school named after T. Zharokov, a school-based museum was opened. Unfortunately, the valuable collection of this promising initiative was destroyed in a fire. In 1988-1989, efforts to revive the museum were resumed, and although new items were collected, the lack of a dedicated facility led to the loss and misplacement of most of the collection.
On November 16, 2015, with the direct support of then-district akim Murat Mukaev, the Zhanibek District Historical and Local History Museum Department was officially registered as a branch of the “West Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore” State Communal Treasury Enterprise under the Department of Culture, Language Development and Archival Affairs of the Akimat of West Kazakhstan Region. This was formalized by Order No. 125 dated November 16, 2015, issued by Dauletkerey Kusainov, who at the time headed the regional Department of Culture, Archives, and Documentation.
Today, the museum consists of 5 exhibition halls open to visitors. The total area of the museum is 270 square meters, with the building occupying 125 square meters. The Zhanibek District Museum Department operates with a staff of 5 people. The museum holds a total of 4,885 artifacts (3,544 in the main collection and 1,341 in the supplementary collection).
