North Kazakhstan Regional Museum of Local Lore

The North Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore is a major cultural and educational institution that systematically collects, scientifically researches, and promotes the historical and cultural heritage of the region from ancient times to the present day. The museum is located in the historical center of Petropavl, on Kazakhstan Constitution Street, housed in 19th-century architectural monuments - the former residences of merchant Strelov and entrepreneur Arkhel.

The institution possesses a unique collection of over 50,000 exhibits, a significant portion of which was discovered during archaeological excavations conducted within the region. The total area of the museum is 2,400 square meters, with 2,000 square meters allocated to exhibition halls. The displays are spread across two floors and include 13 thematic halls. Altogether, the museum's collection consists of approximately 350,000 items of historical and cultural value.

The museum's exhibitions cover various themes. The halls feature materials on the ancient and medieval history of Northern Kazakhstan, regional ethnography, local flora and fauna, the heroism of local residents during the Great Patriotic War, traditional Kazakh lifestyles and clothing, and the history of independent Kazakhstan. A separate section is dedicated to the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev.

The museum is actively engaged in scientific and educational activities. Popular thematic tours include “The Ancient History of the Region,” “The History of Petropavl,” and “We Are All Kazakhstanis.” The museum also hosts historical and educational projects such as “Alash: Tragic Pages of History” and “Customs and Traditions of the Kazakh People,” aimed at fostering patriotism and civic responsibility among youth.

The North Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore is a significant scientific and cultural center that preserves the historical memory of the region, linking the past with the present and looking toward the future.
