Portrait of Turar Ryskulov

Description

Author: Nurlybayev, Muratbek. 1937-2013
A portrait of the state and political figure Turar Ryskulov (1894-1938) depicts him seated at a table in three-quarter view to the left, with his gaze turned toward the viewer; he wears a dark suit, a white shirt, and a red tie, holding an open newspaper in his hands, with an inkstand placed on the table. The background featuring a bookcase introduces the theme of intellectual labor. Rendered in a realistic manner, the face and hands are detailed, while the background and clothing are treated with generalization. The palette is built on deep brown-blue tones centered around the white accent of the newspaper.
