The Sorrowful Road

Description

Author: Nodа, Andrey. 1962
A decorative-symbolic composition. In the right foreground, a stylized profile is depicted, the head covered with cloth whose folds stream in the wind in angular, zigzagging shapes. The background consists of three horizontal bands that conventionally denote a landscape: a dark sky, a yellow band with sparse trees, and a green band of earth. The forms are highly generalized and reduced to flat planes, while the space lacks depth. The color scheme combines muted green and grey tones with a saturated yellow band that serves as the composition’s chromatic accent. At the lower left - signature.
