The Pipe. Red Still Life

Description

Author: Nogaybayev, Chingiz. 1965
A decorative still life featuring a lidded jug, a wicker basket with a bamboo pipe, a cut melon with chopsticks, small gourds, and a gourd vessel, arranged in a dense, pyramidal group on a surface covered with greenish cloth against a striped background, with a woven bag holding a long loaf of bread in the background. The space is treated conventionally, lacking depth. Particular attention is given to the rendering of textures - wickerwork, ceramics, and the cut flesh of the fruit - which take on an ornamental character. The color scheme is built on deep brownish-red and ochre tones, enlivened by the greenish tone of the cloth and the pale flesh of the melon.
