Portrait of the Pilot Mikhailov V.N.

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
A bust-length portrait of a pilot set against the backdrop of an airfield, rendered in a realistic manner with broad, free brushwork. The man is depicted in profile, wearing a light shirt and a service cap, holding a dark uniform jacket slung over his shoulder with his right hand. Behind him on the airfield, a propeller plane is visible, denoting the subject’s profession. The color scheme is built on the contrast between the light tones of the shirt, the cool blue of the uniform and aircraft, and the warm ochre of the earth, while the energetic painterly texture imparts dynamism and lifelike conviction to the image.
