A genre portrait-composition depicting a boy in a shirt and shorts, rendered frontally at full length against an overturned bicycle and a cloudy sky: he holds a milk can in his right hand and a kerosene lamp in his left, with a primus stove beside him, while tools and household objects are laid out on the ground around him. The symmetrical placement of the figure, the precise rendering of details, and the conventional treatment of space give the image the character of a generalized, almost symbolic representation of childhood. The color scheme is built on the warm ochre-golden tones of the ground, contrasted with the cool grey-blue tones of the sky. At the lower left - the artist’s monogram.
