Still Life “Roses”

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
A classic floral still life: set against a light draped background, a dark ceramic vase holding a lush bouquet of red, pink, and yellow roses amidst foliage stands on the polished surface of a table. Individual flowers and fallen petals lie at the base of the vase, reflected in the glossy tabletop. The painting style is realistic, with flowers densely modeled in rich, impasto brushstrokes, while the background and drapery are rendered in a generalized manner. The palette rests on a warm combination of the bouquet’s saturated tones with the green of the foliage and the deep brown-red tone of the table against the light background. Signed lower right.
