Portrait of N. Nurmukhammedov

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
A waist-length portrait of a man standing beside an easel set against a blue-blue background. Positioned upright with his gaze turned toward the viewer, he rests his left hand on his hip while holding the edge of the stretcher frame with the fingers of his right hand, his large head crowned by thick, greying hair combed back. He is dressed in a loose white shirt with rolled-up sleeves and dark trousers. Entering the composition on the left is a fragment of a canvas featuring abstract painting in a yellow-orange palette with a red accent. Executed in oil with a free painterly manner, the work utilizes broad, impasto brushwork. The color scheme builds on the contrast between the cool blue-blue background and the warm white accent of the shirt.
