A waist-length portrait of a man turned three-quarters to the viewer. Depicted standing with his gaze directed forward, he features a large head crowned by a black skullcap, a full greying beard, and a mustache. He is dressed in a three-piece suit with a tie, bearing a lapel pin on the left, and holding a pencil in his right hand. Entering the composition on the left is a large fragment of a telescope, set against an interior wooden wall background. Executed in oil with a realist manner, the work displays densely rendered features and hands, whereas the background is treated with generalized simplicity. The color scheme builds on the contrast between the warm, light accent of the suit and the muted grey-brown tones of the interior. At the lower right – signature and date.
