Description
Author: Kasteyev, Abylkhan. 1904-1973
A multi-figure genre composition set against a mountain landscape, rendered in the tradition of realist easel painting. In the foreground, an elderly woman sits before a felt mat (koshma) decorated with traditional ornament. To her left stand a young woman holding a bouquet and a male figure, while on the right, an elderly man rests on a stone. A fragment of a yurt appears on the far left. In the middle ground, a herd of horses grazes peacefully, leading to a depth framed by green foothills and snow-capped mountain ranges. The composition is built around a pyramidally balanced group in the foreground, harmonizing with the multi-planar structure of the landscape, where the transition between planes is guided by atmospheric perspective. The execution is detailed, featuring meticulous modeling of the faces, traditional attire, and intricate ornamentation. The work represents an ethnographically authentic portrayal of traditional life within the national landscape, characteristic of the Kazakh realist school. At the lower right - signature and date.
