A seascape - the horizon line divides the plane of the canvas into a narrow band of sky and an expansive stretch of water. The colouring is built on a subtle gradation of blue and turquoise - from the deep ultramarine of the distance to the transparent greenish-turquoise water near the shore, with white flecks of foam on the waves. The painterly manner is light, sketch-like - horizontal brushstrokes convey the movement of the water and the gentle ripple on its surface. Signed and dated lower left.
