Description
Author: Zhumanov, Yesimgali. 1946
An abstract-expressionist composition. At the centre is the figure of a girl holding a qobyz. The dark, almost monochrome palette, punctuated with vivid touches of blue, ochre, red, and white, forms a dynamic interweaving of geometricized and painterly fragments from which the image of a musician with her instrument emerges. The form is built up with broad impasto strokes and angular planes; the figure and the qobyz are rendered in a generalized manner, on the verge of recognizability, dissolving into the surrounding painterly mass. The paint application is dense and textured, marked by a pronounced expressive temperament.
