A multi-figure genre scene: the crowd is arranged in a semicircle facing the centre, where a group of figures in light garments is set apart by colour and light; a source of light hovers above the scene, from which thin rays radiate. In the foreground, figures are given large and from behind, in tall headdresses and richly green garments, drawing the viewer into the crowd. The manner is expressive, the brushwork energetic and impasto, the faces generalised. The mood is dynamic, with a festive, almost theatrical exuberance.
