At the center of the composition are books stacked in several tiers. Above and behind them is a lamp. The space is treated conventionally, constructed from geometrized planes; the forms of the objects are generalized and slightly deformed, giving the composition a sense of dynamism and decorative expressiveness. The color palette is rich and contrasting. The painterly manner features clear contours and an emphasis on color relationships.
