Stone for Making Yurt Frame

Description

The stone tool for making the uyk (roof poles) of a traditional Kazakh yurt was crafted from natural stone through shaping and grinding. It has an elongated form, with one end pointed and the other broad and rounded. The working surface has been carefully smoothed. As a result of prolonged use, the surface exhibits signs of wear and abrasion. The tool retains the natural gray color of the stone. It was used for shaping, smoothing, and finishing the wooden roof poles of a yurt.
The tool was discovered at the Ornek archaeological settlement, located on the left bank near the Algabas state farm in Lugovoy District.
